Biography
Dr A.M Jiffry is affiliated with the Department of Animal Science at the Faculty of Agricultural, Eastern University, Sri Lanka. He began his academic journey at the University of Peradeniya, earning a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) degree in 2001 from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science. He has been a registered veterinary surgeon with the Veterinary Council of Sri Lanka. In 2006, he obtained MSc degree in Poultry Science and Technology from the Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture (PGIA), University of Peradeniya. Also obtained MSc in Applied Epidemiology in Postgraduate Institute of Science (PGIS) University of Peradeniya in 2017. He graduated in Masters in Public Administration & Management (MPAM) in University of Colombo, 2024.
As a Monbukagakusho Honors Scholarship he completed his PhD in 2022 in the Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, Hokkaido, Japan. His doctoral research on socio-economic and epidemiological study on foot and mouth disease (FMD) control in Sri Lanka. Area of specialization is poultry production, poultry health and nutrition, farmer behaviour on animal disease control, zoonotic diseases. He teaches undergraduate courses in related to livestock and poultry production. He worked as a veterinary surgeon and Deputy Director in the Department of Animal Production and Health, eastern province from October, 2006 to June, 2025. He has published research papers in FMD, Brucellosis and family poultry on socio-economic and farmer behaviour on animal disease control.
