Welcome to the Department of Agricultural Biology

The Department of Agricultural Biology is one among the six Departments in the Faculty of Agriculture. As a whole there are six academic staff members in the level of Senior Lecturer Gr. I & II /Probationary attached to this Department and four non-academic staff in the level of a Chief Technical Officer, a Management Assistant, a Lab Attendant and a Works Aide.

The Department of Agricultural Biology is responsible to enhance and protect ecosystems required for food production and environmental sustainability. In connection with this responsibility, the department offers high quality education to the undergraduate students in advancing biological knowledge through teaching, research and training. The Department is dedicated to cover the wide spectrum of contemporary biological sciences from molecular aspects to field ecology. Subject coverage spans from knowledge on Plant Physiology, Plant Systematics, Plant Breeding, Genetics, Pathology, Microbiology, Entomology, Pest Management and Molecular Biology. The degree programme also provides extensive hands-on training on biology related laboratory and fieldworks.

The specializing students are provided with the opportunity to familiarize in biological science with the national level research undertaken with the unique opportunity of working with ultra-modern, high-tech equipment. The specializing students have numerous career options to pursue. The advanced curriculum provides the pathway for the development of entrepreneurship.

Facilities available at Department of Agricultural Biology

The department of Agricultural Biology has experts in Plant Physiology, Entomology, Pathology, Breeding, Microbiology and Molecular Biology. Also, it has laboratories to facilitate the research on various disciplines explained above. A field is maintained by the department to give further hands on training in the field of pest management.
